We built a beautifully designed, data driven quiz that was used by the clients of our client in the international development space to help understand and address their mindset biases.
Common Thread in an industry leader in behavioural design for global health. They were looking to develop a solution that helped individuals and organisations identify and better understand how their personal biases about international aid and development reflect colonial mindsets.
Common Thread sought to develop a user-friendly online quiz that would provide participants with an individualised score and description of the extent to which their actions and beliefs are grounded in colonial attitudes.
The challenge
Hello Robin worked with Common Thread to understand the requirements of the quiz and help define the scope of work. We co-designed the user interface using Figma and ensured all content, including quiz questions and responses, was well defined. We then designed a data architecture that was easy to export and use for insights and analytics. We deployed the solution via the web on a subdomain of Common Thread’s website.
The solution
Dynamic results depending on user score
We built a unique response page to return content specific to each user's score on the quiz. User scores are calculated in the back end based on individual question responses.
Optimised database with analytics dashboard
As well as being optimised for performance and a high number of queries, we designed the database in a way that makes it easy for Common Thread to perform internal analytics.
Core features
Responsive desktop and mobile UI
We developed the solution to be web-responsive, making it accessible across all device types to maximise user experience and reach.

Our approach
After scoping out the requirements of the quiz, we evaluated a number of approaches we could use for building the solution. We selected a low-code approach using bubble.io, complete with its internal database, due to this platform’s cost effectiveness and potential for scale.
As the solution evolves and grows, we have the option to move the database over to mySQL to handle greater data volumes and provide more versatility.
